It is the quality presence in so many significant growth markets that distinguishes the healthcare operations and assets that comprise the IHH group. Among these:
-
In Singapore, we are the number one private healthcare provider by number of licensed beds. We added an additional 180 licensed beds when the first phase of our new Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital was launched in June 2012. This number will reach 333 once it is fully operational (expected by end 2013). Our “Mount Elizabeth” and “Gleneagles” brands are among the most prestigious hospital brands in Southeast Asia, according to branding research specialists Millward Brown.
-
In Malaysia, our hospital network, operating under the “Pantai” and “Gleneagles” brands, is the second largest private healthcare provider in the country by number of licensed beds. Our International Medical University – offering medical, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, health science and complementary medicine programmes – is not only a revenue generator in itself but also helps to ensure a steady source of highly-qualified healthcare professionals for our hospitals.
-
In Turkey, the Acibadem integrated healthcare chain – in which we hold an indirect 60% share – is synonymous with best-in-class healthcare services. It operates 2,065 licensed and operational beds and launched one of the first and largest cord blood banks in Turkey. It also runs laboratory and pathology services, stem cell facilities, a range of emergency assistance and home health services, hospital project management and other related services.
-
In India, we have a strong and growing presence through our strategic partnership with Apollo, the largest private healthcare provider in the country by operational beds, with a network of 62 primary clinics and over 8,200 beds across 51 hospitals in India. As at September 2012, IHH has an 11.2% stake in Apollo.
-
In Greater China, we are a major international private healthcare player with eight primary care clinics and medical centres in Shanghai and Chengdu, and one medical centre in Hong Kong. We intend to become a leading private healthcare provider in this market.
Among these markets, Singapore and Turkey also have become important hubs for medical travel in their respective regions, further expanding our patient catchment area and providing significant growth potential for our business. In addition, we anticipate that Malaysia’s medical travel market will accelerate in development, driven by the price competitiveness of its healthcare services, growing regional connectivity and upgrading of its domestic healthcare infrastructure.
